As they commonly say, "All teachers were once students" or more aptly in BJJ we say, "all black belts were once white belts who never quit"

Jiu-Jitsu can be extremely hard in the beginning but as with all great things in life, we need to take the good with the bad. A beginner must go through the challenging parts of Jiu-Jitsu to be able to reap the rewards in the end. This, in my opinion, is one of the best things about BJJ, it reflects a lot of things in life.

There is a reason why they say, "Jiu-Jitsu begins and ends with respect ".

It's because the black belts were once you. Most fully understand the fear and frustration that comes when you first step on that mat with a sparring partner much bigger than you. They've been there. Despite the fear though they made it through and so will you! So to our newbies, here are some tips to help you along the way.
